A co-worker stopped me today and asked, “Didn’t you go to [Conservative] University.” I confirmed that indeed I had. She informed me that she had gone there also. She looked vaguely familiar, but she wasn’t someone who really stood out in my memory. Then she said, “You were the girl who drove that motorcycle, right?” Again I confirmed that I was indeed that culprit. (Perhaps her identifications process was facilitated by the fact that I am currently ‘sporting/enduring’ a very similar haircut to the college crew-cut I had back in the day.) […don’t ask!] We chatted for a few more minutes and then parted ways.
Its funny, the things that stick in people’s minds; behaviors that seem unusual, hobbies or habits that stand out, moments in time that are insignificant to you, but may have been noticeable or even meant something important to someone else.
We are always making some impression in/on the world.

And sometimes I find myself really surprised when someone recognizes me from a place in time far away. I know it sounds silly, but I sometimes feel like I’ve changed SO much since then that I must certainly APPEAR unrecognizable to others.
