My co-worker left for maternity leave just a few days before her baby was due. Of course we all had a baby shower for her and we kept up on the details of her pregnancy and everyone was really excited for her. A week or so before she left she experienced some medical challenges that could have effected her delivery/birth. Needless to say we were all anxious to hear the news. A week past. No news. Another week. Still no news. By the third week we had all begun to fear the worst. Several colleagues sent inquiring messages to both her and her husband. No response. We feared the worst.

That was almost 3 months ago and she is due back to work tomorrow. The problem is…she just sent a message to 2 of my colleagues and indicated that “She’s fine, the baby is fine. Things are great at home and she’s surprised how time has flown. Can’t wait to see you all.”

Now is it just me or does that BLOW every unspoken, social convention around new babies?!?!?! No birth announcement, no pictures, no “everything’s fine”, nada!
