My co-worker left for maternity leave just a few days before her baby was due. Of course we all had a baby shower for her and we kept up on the details of her pregnancy and everyone was really excited for her. A week or so before she left she experienced some medical challenges that could have effected her delivery/birth. Needless to say we were all anxious to hear the news. A week past. No news. Another week. Still no news. By the third week we had all begun to fear the worst. Several colleagues sent inquiring messages to both her and her husband. No response. We feared the worst.
That was almost 3 months ago and she is due back to work tomorrow. The problem is…she just sent a message to 2 of my colleagues and indicated that “She’s fine, the baby is fine. Things are great at home and she’s surprised how time has flown. Can’t wait to see you all.”
Now is it just me or does that BLOW every unspoken, social convention around new babies?!?!?! No birth announcement, no pictures, no “everything’s fine”, nada!

Inconsiderate.
Well, I’ll bet grandma never got thank you cards after birthdays and christmas either!

Yep. She came back today and just acted like nothing was unusual at all. I think she shared like one picture is all. But not much detail. And she just acted all friendly like nothing was out-of-the-norm at all.
Never even mentioned all the concerned emails or why they were never answered. (She’s getting a bit of a cold shoulder from some folks.)
There has got to be a burned synapse somewhere. Crazy.

Burned synapse is a synonym for motherhood—I looked it up on wikipedia.

is there a chance she didn’t get those emails? It just seems so bizarre that she wouldn’t send out an email announcement at least with a photo attached! Unless something IS wrong and she just doesn’t want to talk about it…hmn.

yah think it might’ve been born with a tail? Maybe she’s freaked out. Motherhood is weird for some folks. A guy here joked that he and his wife were in denial of their pregnancy, then she had the baby a month early and they really didn’t have anything prepped. They really were in denial!
On the plus side, she’s not talking about the baby constantly!
