January 2004

Today at work Columbo told me that I remind him of a cross between Rod Stewart and Ellen Degeneres. Should I slap him or be flattered?!?

JB and I were doing a lot of running (literally) around at work, when I casually mentioned that I was getting a good work-out from it. JB agreed and said “Yeah, screw Pilates!”

Well, now there’s an idea! ScrewPilates(TM). Who wouldn’t sign up for that? But would I be able to buy the video at my local store, or would I have to order it discreetly online?

should I greet you
as if
we had merely eaten
together one night
when the white birches
dripped wet
and lightning etched
black trees on your walls?

it is not love
I am asking

love comes from years
of breathing
skin to skin
tangled in each other’s dreams
until each night
weaves another thread
in the same web
of blood and sleep

and I have only
passed through you quickly
like light

and you have only
surrounded me suddenly
like flame

the lake is cold
the snows are sudden
the wild cherry bends
and winter’s a burden

in your hand I feel
spring burn in the bud.

“Well honey, you’re right, maybe you should go down on the strip (Cedar Springs).

Whenever life starts to get me feeling down, I’m always lifted up by friends. What a great blessing!

Had an interesting discussion with a friend tonight. So is there a difference between the people you would save from drowning vs. the people who were trapped in a burning building? Is there anyone you know who you would actively NOT save? Who would you go into a burning building for? Who would you swim for? If they are not the same, what’s the difference?

Years ago I was struck by the notion that most of my life epiphanies come to me through metaphors. They tend to introduce me to some of the spirit and force of life. There is something about the quality of an image in my head that makes concepts more concrete for me. Usually when the words become an image, then I finally get the picture. When that happens I have met a force. But it was only when I began to find my online home that I discovered a new interpretation, because without the spaces it looked more like meta force . So I began to explore that possibility as well, and I liked it even better. And only because all the “metaforce” domains were unavailable I had to throw the “wilder” in for good measure.

wilder -
Lacking restraint
Disorderly; unruly
Characterized by a lack of moral restraint; dissolute or licentious
Full of, marked by, or suggestive of strong, uncontrolled emotion
Extravagant; fantastic
Furiously disturbed or turbulent
Risky; imprudent
Impatiently eager
Informal. Highly enthusiastic
Deviating greatly from an intended course; erratic

meta -
Change; transformation, Alternation.
Beyond; transcending; more comprehensive
At a higher state of development
Having undergone metamorphosis

force -
The capacity to do work or cause physical change; energy, strength, or active power
Power made operative against resistance; exertion
The use of physical power or violence to compel or restrain
Intellectual power or vigor, especially as conveyed in writing or speech.
Moral strength.
A capacity for affecting the mind or behavior; efficacy
One that possesses such capacity

So inane, insane, profound or just plain silly, I hope to be able to share some of those life moments with others.

Two people very dear to me lost their jobs this week, which brings my personal number of unemployed friends to an alarming sum. But hey, thank goodness we were able to free the Iraqi people, because I was really worried about them.
